the occasion of this third trip to Venice, one almost a decade, each time another season, I was able to decipher this fantastic city.
The great campanile of Piazza San Marco is the same as the paintings by Canaletto and Guardi, but it actually was rebuilt exactly in 1905, following its collapse.
The phenomenon of "high water" in winter , which we have fortunately not experienced during our stay, is the millennium but has been exacerbated from the 60s as a channel was dug deep into the Mestre and Marghera sea for tankers and other vessels high sea, which has destabilized the system. The Venetian dialect is alive and well it sounds like Italian, but it is not quite, either by the pronunciation, or by words.

Carnival, qui a fait en partie la réputation de Venise, ne s'est remis à revivre qu'à partir des années 1980. Quel bonheur pour le photographe, voire pour le voyageur, de voir toutes ces boutiques de masques et de costumes, en général assez esthétiques et bien sûr ces dizaines de couples en grande tenue, soit 18e siècle, soit moderno-intemporels qui commencent à parader en milieu d'après-midi sur la place Saint Marc et globalement dans le sestiere (quartier) San Marco.
Dans une ville que l'on dit vieillissante et touristique, à la population en diminution, il est difficile de répertorier dans les statistiques les étudiants et les résidents étrangers au long cours.
