Le Caire n'est pas une destination habituelle pour les vacanciers européens. Ou alors ils se concentrent sur le Musée Egyptien et le Soukh du quartier "islamique" ( Khan el Khalili) avant d'attaquer les pyramides de Guizeh (en grande banlieue sud-ouest), les croisières sur le Nil du côté de Louxor ou d'Assouan, ou de bronzer sur une des 2 rives de la Mer Rouge.
